New Sunday Morning Services from September 2010To enrich, deepen and extend our discipleship and mission, I’m delighted to announce the launch of new services on Sunday mornings from Sunday 5 September. This follows many months of observation, listening, prayer and discussion and is with the unanimous support of the PCC. (Please note that evening services will continue at 6.00 and 6.30pm.)
Through these new services, I pray that we may be drawn closer to the Lord, to each other as one community of disciples and also grow numerically as we serve the Lord together.
May I invite you to an information evening on Monday 19th July @ 8pm in church, when I will give a full description of these new services and answer any questions. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me, the staff team or wardens with any questions and comments. Thank you.
9.00 Morning Communion (Approx. one hour duration)
A warm, traditional liturgical service using the range of liturgy offered by Common Worship (introduced into the Church of England in 1990).
We will use a new printed service book and a hymn book. The liturgy will be followed fully.
- Organ every Sunday with hymns, using a hymn book. No technology.
- Communion every Sunday using the lower rail.
- Clergy will robe and use the stalls. The sermon will be 10-12 minutes.
- On a rota basis, members of the congregation to lead prayers, read both lessons, assist with communion.
- Suggestion that on the 5th Sunday, we may choose to use the spoken BCP service (or not? – the congregation to decide).
- I hope that volunteers will offer to provide tea and coffee after the service.
- I also hope that prayer ministry will be available during communion and after the service.
11.00 Contemporary Service (Approx. 1 hour 10 mins duration)
A contemporary, creative and informal service involving and including all ages.
All ages begin every service together. Children and young people leave for their groups after 20 minutes (except for the Family Service).
- Communion once a month in the Family Service (2nd Sunday) when we will worship together. Communion liturgy to be suitable for the congregation.
- Band will lead worship
- Technology will be used
- All ages to contribute in the service as appropriate (e.g. lead prayers etc,)
- 15-20 minute talk once children and young people have left for their groups.
- Baptisms will continue to be held on the 4th Sunday.
- I hope that volunteers will continue to offer to welcome, assist with other aspects of the service e.g. provide tea and coffee before/after the service.
- I also hope that prayer ministry will be available after the service and during monthly communion.
