Monthly Prayer Letter

Go to previous prayer letter:

This is the Prayer Letter for December.  Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month.  The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.

Sunday

Please pray for all our Christmas services this month, starting with Christingle on 11th December; pray for His leading in everything that is planned. Pray especially for the many “Christmas” visitors, that their hearts might be opened to the love of Jesus and that He will go back with them into their homes. Pray for those who are working hard preparing and planning these important services, that the Lord will inspire and bless them. Also remember those for whom Christmas is a difficult time.

Monday

The people who have just come through the latest basic course will be doing M1 Membership course on 5th December. Thank God for them and pray that they will be encouraged to become full members of our fellowship here at St John’s, getting to know one another and learning to live in the Lord’s family. Pray that they will know how much we long for them to be members of the body of Christ here in Burscough.

Tuesday

Christmas cards from all 3 churches in Burscough will be delivered to every home during December. Pray that these cards, and those who take them, will remind people of the true reason we celebrate; pray for good responses to our outreach, that we might be able to touch a need. Pray also for the invitation to find out more about how Jesus can answer many of life’s questions at “Pints of View”, to be held at the Bull & Dog on 23rd January. This is a new venture involving the 3 churches; pray for the Holy Spirit’s unifying presence.

Wednesday

Once again we have the joy of welcoming the staff and pupils of our 3 junior schools into our church for end of term assembly on 20th December. Pray that the Holy Spirit may be active in revealing the love of God for us in sending Jesus to be with us; pray that this truth will be manifested in their hearts, bringing true joy and peace this Christmas. Pray for Neil and Simon and others as they minister to this new generation; ask the Lord to help and inspire them as they reach out with His love.

Thursday

Our clergy will be celebrating Holy Communion with the housebound on 23rd December. This is a special time and we know it is much appreciated; pray for the Holy Spirit’s active presence, bringing that wonderful peace to those who often feel shut out of fellowship. Thank God for our clergy and all who minister to those no longer able to join us in regular worship, and pray that we may all be alert to give love and friendship to such as these.

Friday

Our young people are involved in lots of varied activities at this time. Ask the Lord to bless them and all who minister to them, giving them enthusiasm, joy and peace as they continue to grow and have fellowship with each other. Pray that they will take the true spirit of Christmas into their homes so that they and their families may feel truly blessed and know the presence of Jesus. Pray especially for any whose home life is difficult, that they will know where to turn in time of need; ask the Lord to draw near.

Saturday

We all get caught up in the Christmas rush but let’s remember to keep on looking up to Jesus otherwise we celebrate nothing. Pray that we will display in our lives, the love of Christ in such a way that will powerfully speak to all who do not know Him.
