This is the Prayer Letter for April. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
Saturday 1st April sees the launch of the Parish Plan at Priory High School. Things are going to change in Burscough, it’s good news time! St John’s will benefit from some of the changes. Let’s pray about the good news we can bring to Burscough, by putting into practice all we have been learning about being good disciples. Bring to God our community, especially the ones who live near you; pray for opportunities to get involved and bless your neighbour.
Monday
A new M1 membership course starts on 3rd April and recent converts will be learning what it means to be a member of God’s church. Pray that they may be brought to complete unity in Christ, loving one another and learning to be true servants. Pray for those who lead and teach, that the Lord will give them joy in their work. Thank God for the growth we are seeing.
Tuesday
It’s the wedding season again. Thank God for the couples who have been married in recent years in our church, and for those who will commit to one another in the months to come. Pray for our clergy as they reach out to these couples with God’s love and blessing, and ask Him to prepare hearts and minds to be receptive at this important time of life. Jesus longs to bless our relationships and our homes. Thank Him for past blessings which have come from this ministry, giving new, abundant life.
Wednesday
Please pray for our Easter services, that they will give great honour and praise to our Lord Jesus. Many folks will come through the church doors during Holy week, maybe knowing Jesus, maybe not even looking for Him. Pray that His presence will be powerful and unmistakeable, that all who come will meet with Him and go away from our doors, changed and exhilarated, renewed and blessed. Pray for everyone who takes any part in these services, that every heart will be set on giving glory to Him. Pray especially for leaders and preachers, that the wonderful redemption message is given loud and clear.
Thursday
Neil will be preaching at Oaks on 23rd April. Duncan and his team are working hard to reach out into that community and their work is bearing fruit. Ask the Lord to oversee all their efforts on His behalf and to give them encouragement in their work. Pray for good strong relationships to be formed so that they will love and support one another as they grow in Christ. Pray also for the outreach to the schools and the young mothers and babies group. This is tough territory and needs our constant prayer support.
Friday
The AGM takes place on 25th April and this year 2 new wardens will take office. Once again we have much to thank God for over the last 12 months; pray that the meeting will strengthen our resolve to serve the Lord in this community and to the ends of the earth. Pray that we may be bold in our vision for the next 12 months, doing even more to serve with good heart, knowing that He is our Captain, and He cannot fail. Pray for Derek and David as they relinquish their posts, and ask for God’s equipping for the new tenants.
Saturday
Jer Thomas will be inducted as priest on 25th June ready to take up his post at Christ Church, Aughton. Thank God for the wonderful way He has moved in the lives of Sue and Jer, and for the encouragement this has given to us all at St John’s. Jer will be speaking at the 8 o’clock service ministry.on 30th April , and Sue and Jer will be taking part in the 10.30 service on that day. Ask God to richly bless them as they move forward in their ministry. Pray that their lives will bring forth fruit for our Lord and great blessings for the communities they serve.
