This is the Prayer Letter for May. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
Please pray for all the uniformed organisations connected with St John’s. Pray for closer links with them and good mutual support. Thank God for their leaders, for the time and commitment they give to the young and ask Him to bless them in their work. Pray for a good AGM for the Scouts on 10th May.
Monday
Pray for our new church wardens, Denise and Mark. Pray that the Lord will richly bless them in this work they have chosen to do; pray for a great outpouring of love and support for them so that they will feel uplifted and blessed in their work.
Tuesday
There will be a service of Remembering and Thanksgiving on 21st May at 6pm for all who know the pain of bereavement. Pray for all who take any office in this service, that their hearts will be filled with the love and compassion of Jesus. There has been a good response to this service in previous years, indicating the need that people have and the burden of separation which many are carrying. Jesus can and does meet that need; pray that His presence will bring healing, and that our love will bring comfort.
Wednesday
The 1st meeting of the new PCC will be held on 23rd May. Pray for all new members and ask the Lord to guide them in all their deliberations on behalf of His church at St John’s. Thank God for all those willing to serve in this way. May everything be to His glory and His satisfaction.
Thursday
9 adults will be confirmed at the Cathedral this month. Pray that this important step may not be taken lightly, but in true faith in our Lord and His saving power. Pray that faith will grow. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s presence to witness to friends and families.
Friday
As we learn more about our wonderful world, ask the Holy Spirit to open our minds to the needs of our world and the oppressed of our world so that we can learn to respond in a practical and spiritual way, learning to recognise the part we personally play in spoiling and misusing what God has made. Give our leaders wisdom as they open up this subject to us. Pray for them as they plan the Summer series at St John’s; ask the Lord to rule and guide so that we may be inspired and blessed.
Saturday
Thank God for the tremendous generosity of His people at St John’s during the last 12 months and pray that we may do even more in 2006, for the Lord says “Test me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it”. Thank Him that His promises are true.
