This is the Prayer Letter for October. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
Pray for the Pastoral Commissioning service on 1st October, and thank God for all who are called to serve in this way. There are so many now who gladly give their time and energy helping others in the church and community, thereby showing the love of Jesus. Pray for more helping hands and compassionate hearts, and pray for Jenny as she organises and coordinates all the different fields of pastoral care.
Monday
Pray for the autumn visit to Parcevall Hall where clergy and lay people will join in leading a “2:10” series of talks. Pray especially for any who are experiencing Parcevall for the first time, that the Holy Spirit will be present and doing His work in drawing people closer to our Lord.. This special place has provided the means for moving forward the faith of so many in our church; may the Lord pour out rich blessings on all who seek Him there.
Tuesday
On the 6th October our 3 junior schools will be in church for Harvest services. Pray for them as they come to thank God for His provision. Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak through His servants to staff and pupils about the blessings we all enjoy here in Burscough, where all our needs are catered for. Continue to pray for strengthening of links between church and schools, and for those who foster those links through school assemblies. Pray for parents and teachers, that they will do their best to sustain and educate these youngsters, stressing the importance of service to others, as they prepare them for life.
Wednesday
The autumn basics course has now begun. Let’s pray for those people who have come to find out more about Jesus. Pray for the Spirit’s enabling for all who lead and teach, for warmth and inclusion, and good fellowship as our Lord is revealed to all who come. Pray for good things to happen to surprise and delight us all.
Thursday
Pray for Jayne Owens as she leads the St John’s Theology course on Saturdays; thank God for the work she has done in preparing and the commitment she has shown. Pray that the Holy Sprit will use her and any others involved in leadership, to deepen and strengthen our fellowship with God. Pray also for the autumn fellowship series “Building Bridges” to nurture our fellowship with one another. Thank God for our clergy and PCC and the concern they have demonstrated for us all; let’s show our appreciation and love by responding to and taking part in the initiatives they have planned for our benefit.
Friday
Pray for the people of St Mark’s Scarisbrick as they contemplate a possible link- up with St John’s. Pray for patience and gentleness, and a willingness to be open minded and gracious as our two churches start to meet and try to discover a way forward for us all. Pray that the need to show the love of God will be paramount in all the deliberations, and that we will be able to build on the common ground we share in Jesus. Ask the Lord to lead and guide so that His will may be done.
Saturday
This month our church will be celebrating 21 years of hunger lunches. This is a wonderful witness to the love of God and the work of His Holy Spirit. Thank Him for all who have strived from the beginning to do something practical to help our brothers and sisters around the world whose needs are so much greater than ours, whilst sharing fellowship and simple food with one another. This is faith in action; please pray that this work will continue and grow.
