Monthly Prayer Letter

Go to previous prayer letter:

This is the Prayer Letter for December.  Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month.  The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.

Sunday

On 2nd December, Ian Chisholm will take a counselling course for St John’s pastoral workers. Thank God for all who serve in this way, for the need is huge. Pray that Ian will be led to inspire and teach all that the Lord requires of His workers, and ask that they may be filled with renewed vigour and compassion for service. Pray for the housebound and the homes in our parish, for the peace of our Lord as they receive Christmas Communion.

Monday

The children will be in the throes of planning and rehearsing nativity plays. Let’s pray for Sue and Karen, our church school head teachers. Thank God for them and their teaching staff, for the work they do with our youngsters. Ask the Lord to continue to bless the relationship between church and schools, so that we can work together to teach these little ones about Jesus.

Tuesday

On Monday 11th December the new recruits from the latest basics course will be starting the M1 Membership course. Pray for them as they learn about being part of the family of God. Pray that what they hear will encourage them to keep on moving forward with Jesus and us. Pray that relationships will deepen, that love will grow, and that they will experience the joy of belonging.

Wednesday

Pray for the Mums and Toddlers nativity play; pray particularly that these mothers will be encouraged to come to the Crib Service to see and hear the real message of Christmas. Pray also for the All Stars nativity at the Christingle service. We know how popular this service is; pray for the touch of the Holy Spirit on all who will come so that Christmas 2006 will mean so much more than tinsel and presents.

Thursday

Pray for all our Christmas services. Pray that hearts and minds will be moved and won, that the message of our Lord will supersede the froth and sentiment of the world. Pray that the message will be given clearly and received gladly and pray for the message bearers, whether children or adults, that the Holy Spirit will rest upon them and be an inspiration to all who come.

Friday

Continue to pray for St Mark’s Scarisbrick. There is already encouraging news from them. They have set up a forward thinking team of 6 people, plus our own Elaine and Eileen who will be St John’s reps. They will have met for the 1st time on 29th November to review all aspects of St Mark’s future. Pray for wisdom and purpose for this team, and for support from their PCC. There is a monthly school assembly in church for parents and children; pray that this may reach out to these parents. Ask the Lord to bless the work that Elaine and Eileen are doing with 8-10 year olds at the after school kids club on Tuesdays. Thank God for all these initiatives and also for the 2 groups now meeting every 2 weeks for bible study, that as they turn to Him, He will fulfil His promises and bless them. Pray that they will turn to prayer.

Saturday

Pray for all our young people at this exciting time. Some are going ice skating on the 13th; pray for good fellowship, fun and safety for them and their leaders. Pray also for the young puppeteers as they give performances at Surestart and Oaks in Skelmersdale. Pray that they will give a good message to counteract all the hype that is around at this time. Thank the Lord that they are so willing to go and share the good news. Ask Him to bless them in this work.
