This is the Prayer Letter for September. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
This month there will be several meetings held as church leaders meet Richard for the first time: housegroup leaders, PAT team, PCC. Pray that there will be a spirit of love and cooperation and that everyone will be of one mind, spirit and purpose, to serve Him to the utmost and to establish His kingdom here in Burscough. Pray for those who have steered us through the interregnum and thank God for them and ask for a spirit of unity to cover all the meetings.
Monday
Pray for our services on 28th September, which is “Back to Church Sunday” when we are asked to invite friends and neighbours whose church attendance has fallen away. The services are going to be focused on these people and it is up to us to make sure they feel welcome and comfortable. Ask the Lord to reveal those people you should be targeting and to give you the winning way of approach. “Let us pursue the things that make for peace and the building up of one another”.
Tuesday
Richard’s first Sunday will be the 7th September; let’s pray that this day will be very special for all of us, an occasion of great joy and celebration. Pray that Richard may capitalise on his newness and take full advantage of our curiosity. Pray for a big vision born of complete confidence in our Lord, knowing that, if we are willing, He will do it.
Wednesday
Pray for all the children’s groups as they get together again after the summer; pray that they will all return to continue learning about Jesus. The toddlers group will be meeting in the church hall this term; pray that this will be a good move for them. Ask the Lord to help us to find a new male leader for the older teenagers’ group, someone to love and inspire them. Pray too for Matty Rimmer as he starts his work for Youth for Christ in Burton on Trent; ask the Lord to guide and undertake for him in his Christian work.
Thursday
Pray for Richard as he takes over the reins of our church. Ask for wisdom and vision for the work ahead, for domestic contentment for the whole family in their new home, and for a smooth transition as the children take their places at school. Thank the Lord for sending this family.
Friday
The Beatitudes (Matthew 5) are being explored at all services this month. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide all who will lead and preach, to open our minds to what Jesus is saying to us and to give us the desire and courage to live holy lives and become more like Him.
Saturday
Housegroups will start to meet again during September and will study Matthew 5 alongside our church services. Pray for the group leaders and all the groups, and ask the Holy Spirit to challenge our attitudes as we see the contrasts and contradictions of Jesus’ way compared with the quick fixes of everyday life. Pray that we may hunger and thirst for His way.
