This is the Prayer Letter for January. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
Pray for the people at St John’s as we begin our new sermon series “The Church and it’s Message” through 1 Corinthians 1 - 4; that we will be alert and eager to hear what our Lord is saying to us through His Holy Word and that the Word will bring new life to us all. Pray for those who will preach over the next few weeks, for the Lord’s equipping by His Holy Spirit.
Monday
Pray for our young people as the groups reform after the Christmas break. Thank God for them and ask Him to encourage them on their journey of faith by touching their young hearts and minds in a powerful way as they meet together. Pray for all leaders and helpers as they resume their commitment to nurture and love, asking the Lord to richly bless them in this important work.
Tuesday
Let’s bring before the Lord our ordinands in training; we do not often see them around now but they need our prayer support for the enormous step they have taken. Pray for Jayne, Eileen and Elaine and also their families as they adjust to the changes. Continue to pray for Richard and Helen Gedge and their family who are now looking for a curacy. Thank God for calling people into full time ministry and for all who willingly answer the call to “Follow me”.
Wednesday
Thank God for the pastoral ministry of our church. Let’s pray this month for all those who faithfully serve on the bereavement team. Ask the Lord to bless them and give them all they need as they reach out to those suffering the pain of losing a loved one. This is a delicate ministry and makes special demands; ask the Lord to guide and give wisdom, insight and understanding as they seek to comfort those who mourn.
Thursday
A new Christian basics course will be starting this month. Pray for people who will come, that they may see all that our Lord has for them, and that they will find the joy of Christian fellowship. Pray for Simon and any other helpers as they lead the sessions.
Friday
Continue to pray for all who have completed the last basics course and are meeting together for Converts to Disciples sessions. Pray for these new friendships as they grow and deepen. Ask the Lord by His Holy Spirit to encourage each one just as they need, and pray that we may make every effort to prayerfully support them as they start out on this new and exciting journey.
Saturday
Continue to pray for Richard and his team as they lead us in 2009 and seek to be a blessing to all in our community. Pray that we may exhibit the Christ-like qualities that will attract people to Jesus so that He might transform, heal and enrich the lives of our neighbours.
