This is the Prayer Letter for May. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
Thank God for our 2 new churchwardens, Diane Edwards and David Birch. Pray for them as they begin their term of office; they will be uncertain and in need of the encouragement that all of us can give as we support them in word and deed and prayer. It is especially important to avoid comparison and criticism as they settle in to their new roles. Thank God for their servant hearts, shown through their many years of commitment. Pray also for the new PCC members, Jean Bailey, Wendy Dixon, Jennie Short and Keith Sutton and their willingness to give their time and energy to St John’s.
Monday
As we take another step forward in our church’s history, pray that the Lord will be with us on the pathway, and that all of us will be looking up to Him for guidance and clear direction. Pray especially for any who have leadership roles; these roles are many and varied but all are important for the wellbeing of our church and its mission to Burscough and its environs as well as further afield. Thank God for Richard and the inspirational vision he has received to touch our village with the love of Jesus. Pray for a wellspring of support and enthusiasm to engage our local community to share God’s love and transform lives.
Tuesday
Continue to pray for the Explore course, which meets for 2 more sessions this month. Pray that people are now comfortable with one another and that the Holy Spirit is doing His work through His servants Phil and Richard. Pray that anyone who has questions or doubts will be able to confidently express them in an atmosphere of love and compassion, and thank God that He is always calling new people to follow Him to receive all the riches of His grace given freely to us in Jesus.
Wednesday
Our confirmation Service takes place on12th May with Bishop David Jennings. Pray for all our young people as they take this important step in their lives; pray also for the 3 adults who have made this decision to go forward with Him. Pray for a wonderful evening of celebration and transformation and thank god for Bishop David who is always so gently encouraging to the candidates. Pray for spiritual growth and maturity in their future lives as they step out in faith at this important service.
Thursday
There will be a Remembrance and Thanksgiving Service at St John’s on 17th May. This service is always well attended, testifying to the enormous need in our community to grapple with the issue of death. Pray for all who will come that they will be comforted, that our Lord will touch them and bring His healing to many wounds. Pray also for the proposed new outreach to the bereaved within our community. Ask for wisdom from above for Jenny and others who will be involved in this sensitive area of ministry.
Friday
Pray for the Little Stars service on 20th May for pre school children and their parents. Pray that the Lord by His Holy Spirit will touch the hearts of these young mothers (and maybe fathers) as they meet together in our church and gradually start to learn more about Him. Pray for an atmosphere of warmth and inclusiveness and inner peace as Richard and Joanna open their arms of love in His name.
Saturday
Pray for Priory High School, for all teachers and staff and thank God for the work that Sarah has been doing there with some of the more needy children. Pray that the Lord may extend His kingdom in that place and that there will be a good rapport between Richard and the new Head teacher when he arrives. Pray especially for the hundreds of teenagers who attend, that God will provide a pathway to them in the coming months and years.
