This is the Prayer Letter for September. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
As we start anew term this month, pray for everyone in our congregation: the Sunday and Tuesday worshippers, all the house groups, particularly the leaders: our young people going off to new classes, schools etc; pray that we will all draw closer to God by spending time with Him each day. Pray for Richard and the ministry team, that by their faithfulness, the Lord will, by His Holy Spirit, equip them and bless them to spread the good news of Christ in Burscough.
Monday
Ask the Lord to bless our new sermon series “Strangers in a strange land”. As Christians we need the help of God’s Holy Spirit to enable us to remain true to Him and live for Him in a hostile environment. Pray that the Lord will show us how to live for Him in those personal situations of opposition and difficulty. Pray for all who have the responsibility for preaching the Word and ask the Lord to encourage them.
Tuesday
Continue to pray for our youth fellowship, remembering the arts group and the youth band, and rejoice with the Lord now that the FROG group will be meeting twice monthly on Wednesdays. Pray as always for more helpers to come forward to encourage and nurture these young ones and thank God for all who minister to them. Theirs is a special and vital ministry, passing on the message to the next generation.
Wednesday
Pray for rich blessings as the home team starts the Alpha course on 22nd and 24th Sept. Pray for any who may not have yet signed up, that they will prayerfully consider it. Pray for leaders and helpers to be Spirit led, and that all hearts will be prepared and eager to receive from them and one another as we meet in Christ’s name. Pray for the blessing of new relationships and new revelations from God our father.
Thursday
Thank God for the work and witness of Bishop David, Warrington who retires at the end of the month. He will be sorely missed particularly by serving ministers in the diocese, for his gentle Spirit led wisdom and fellowship. Ask the Lord to richly bless him and his wife Sally in their new life. Pray for our new Bishop Warrington, Ven Richard Blackburn as he takes up his new appointment.
Friday
Pray for the continuing ministry of the Baptism preparation team who will be holding a teaching session on the 7th Sept. Pray that this may be Spirit led and that good strong relationships with the families will ensue. Several family visits are planned for this month – pray for receptive hearts and warmth, and a new understanding of the Lord’s love for the little ones.
Saturday
We have two outreach services during September: Songs of Praise to support the work of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution on Sept 11th, and Back to Church Sunday on 27th. We live in a beautiful agricultural community and have much to thank God for in that. Let’s praise Him for the beauty and plenty that we enjoy, and generously give our support for farmers in distress. May we also prayerfully consider who we can invite to church on the 27th, remembering that most people who come to know the Lord do so as a result of an invitation from a friend or acquaintance. Pray that as we invite, He will bless.
