This is the Prayer Letter for October. Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month. The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.
Sunday
The PCC and staff team are having an away day on 17th. Thank God for them and their commitment and willingness to participate in all the decision making involved in running the church. This is a big responsibility and requires time and energy, faith and prayer. Pray that the Holy Spirit will hold sway with each one as they meet together so that there will be complete unity of hearts and minds.
Monday
The Little Stars monthly service for pre school children is on the 7th. Ask the Lord to richly bless these little ones, their carers and all who lovingly give of their time to nurture and encourage them in the ways of the Lord. Pray that seeds of goodness and trust will be sown in the hearts of young and older ones, and for flourishing friendship between adults as they gather together in Jesus’ name.
Tuesday
Thank God for the encouraging response from our congregation to the Alpha course in September and pray that those who were apprehensive in any way were reassured by the fellowship in the groups. Meeting new people is not an easy prospect for many, so keep on praying that they will soon feel comfortable and able to open up. Thank God for those who served and waited on us so efficiently, and for all the group encouragers. Pray that they may prayerfully prepare themselves as we all meet again this month, and that we will all draw closer to the Lord and to each other.
Wednesday
On Wednesday 14th at 8pm we will be holding the first of a new monthly service of prayer for healing. Please pray that this service will reach out to the many in our fellowship and outside who need the healing and renewing power of our Lord. Pray for those who will lead this quiet and reflective service, that all will be done with the wisdom, grace and courage of the Holy Spirit’s presence, and pray that those who come will be prepared to receive from Him.
Thursday
Please pray for all the Harvest services taking place this month, including the three schools services on the 9th. Harvest time is traditionally a time of gathering in, but also of giving as a thank you to the Lord for His provision. Pray that we may all fully appreciate how blessed we are, particularly as we see the hardship and poverty so prevalent in our world. Pray for thankful hearts and generous giving for our 3 projects for 2010: the Belarus orphanage, homes, toilet facilities and water storage for the desperately poor of Paraguay, and the Farm Crisis Network supporting farmers in need.
Friday
Pray for Joanna and her team as they minister to children, families and young people. Give thanks for them; this is hard work and there are always problems to be tackled and overcome. Pray for health and strength for these labourers; pray that they may be daily encouraged in their work by all of us and that their reward will be to see young men and women living for Christ. Continue to pray for more workers in this vineyard, and cover the homes of the children with prayer so that obstacles to faith may be overcome by the power of God.
Saturday
On Saturday 31st, as an alternative to Halloween, there will be a party for youngsters with lots of games, activities and a short talk. Pray that this event will be fun filled and enjoyable with lots of children coming together in a safe environment. Pray for those children who will be on the streets on this night possibly getting involved in unwholesome activities: pray that next year they may be encouraged to join the party at St John’s. Ask the Lord to undertake in this.
