Monthly Prayer Letter

Go to previous prayer letter:

This is the Prayer Letter for January.  Please use this list to target praying in your group over the next month.  The prayer requests focus on quality rather than quantity.

Sunday

Praise God for the way He moved so many of His people during the Alpha course: as a result there are one or two new house groups starting this year. Pray that these reinvigorated seekers will continue to be blessed as they meet together in trust and fellowship with Jesus.

Monday

We start anew sermon series this month on the book of Philippians, Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi which speaks of the joys of the Christian life as against the emptiness and futility of pleasure seeking. Pray that, as we listen, we will be convinced and experience the quiet, confident assurance of God’s love and work in our lives, which is the true source of our joy.

Tuesday

The first monthly Healing service of 2010 takes place on Wednesday 13th January. Thank God for this initiative; this has brought comfort to many people. Pray that the Lord, by His Holy Spirit will minister to all comers with His peace and love. Pray for those who lead or help in any way that they may sensitively and prayerfully prepare themselves as they worship and draw alongside any who suffer.

Wednesday

The Little Stars monthly service takes place on January 27th. Pray for St John’s continuing ministry to these toddlers, carers and parents, and praise God that more adults are becoming involved in this gentle worship time. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s blessing as Richard and his team reach out to this new generation. Pray for the Baptism Preparation course on 18th January leading to the Baptism service on the 24th: pray that these families will be able to grasp the importance and symbolism of having their children baptised; ask the Lord to open their hearts to His longing to be part of their lives. Pray that these children will be encouraged to know and to trust in Jesus.

Thursday

Please pray for our church pastoral and bereavement teams who minister faithfully week by week, visiting the sick and housebound, listening and showing loving concern. Ask the Lord by His Holy Spirit to reveal Himself through the ministry of these servants to those who suffer in any way. Pray for more people to become involved in this important work for the Lord.

Friday

Praise the Lord for His continued blessings via the Tuesday morning services. Thank Him for Brian’s special ministry and all others who help in any kind of way. This midweek service brings together so many who would otherwise have little social and spiritual opportunity, so ask the Lord to continue to pour out His blessing. Pray for Richard and all in the preaching team, meeting on 18th January: preaching God’s Holy Word is a tremendous responsibility and they all need the encouragement of our prayers.

Saturday

Pray for all the fellowship at St John’s as we learn a new text from Micah. Ask the Lord to speak to us through this word and make us aware of how we should be towards one another and to those around us; we can make a difference if we really act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God.
